Traffic survey in town

A TRAFFIC survey will be taking place in the town centre to help improve air quality and cut carbon emissions.
The council’s air quality and transport teams are undertaking a major town centre wide traffic survey in May using 40 traffic cameras across 16 different locations.
The survey will only gather information on vehicle type and direction of destination on roads linking into and around the town centre.
This information will then be used as part of a Low Emissions Feasibility Study that will support the council in deciding on the best measures to introduce to cut carbon emissions to help improve air quality.
Cllr David Keane, executive board member for environment and public protection, said: “It’s really important that we monitor air quality and make sure that it is of a high standard. Poor air quality has a damaging impact not only on our health but also on the local environment and so it is important that we take this issue seriously and consider and bring in changes to help keep air quality at a high level.”
