Two schools to be extended

TWO Warrington primary schools will be extended if proposals to be put to the borough council’s planning committee are approved.
The development at Oakwood Avenue Primary would add three classrooms and enable the number of pupils at the school to be increased from 420 to 510. An additional six staff are likely to be employed.
Extensions at Brook Acre Primary, in Hilden Road, Fearnhead would increase the size of one classroom and the school library. But there would be no increase in staff or the number of pupils.
Both schemes are to be put to the committee next week with officer recommendations of approval.
A report to be considered by officers indicates that Oakwood Avenue Primary dates from the early 1900s.
Pupils needs for reception year are coming under pressure and last year the school had to admit more pupils than it was designed for. Predictions up to 2016-17 indicate that numbers of pupils would continue to increase as a result of a significant increase in birth rates in the area.
The extensions were required to cope with the increasing number of children. The school would increase in size by one form of entry.
At Brook Acre Primary, the extensions would infill already partially enclosed areas.
