Decorate your bin competition

A DECORATE Your Bin competition is being held as part of International Compost Awareness Week.
Held from Monday to Sunday May 6-12, the week aims to encourage families to get composting, and the “Decorate Your Compost Bin” competition has been devised as a fun challenge for all ages to get creative and win a prize.
Research suggests that 30 per cent of household waste is organic and can be composted, turning kitchen and garden waste into a nutrient rich food for your garden.
Cllr David Keane, executive board member for environment and public protection, said: “Many think that only garden waste can be composted but vegetable peelings, old tea bags and egg shells can go in there too!”
For details on how to enter ‘decorate your compost bin’ visit www.homecomposting.org.uk – the deadline for entries is Wednesday 8 May.
