Legion facing Last Post!

A local British Legion branch which was founded more than 90 years ago could be forced to close if it does not find some new volunteer helpers soon.
Lymm and District Royal British Legion, was was founded by the father of Club President Raymond Massey, had a membership of more than 1,000 in the past.
But with falling numbers and a committee of advanced years, coupled with health issues, the future of the branch is now in serious doubt.
A previous appeal for help at the last AGM failed to bring forward any new volunteers.
Secretary Tony Bone said: “Despite the situation being made abundantly clear, pleas for assistance have not materialised. If people want the charitable and admirable work to continue we need some help now.”
During recent years the branch has raised record amounts for the Poppy Appeal, increasing year on year.
“Owing to advancing years, coupled with health issues with the current members of the committee, the work engine, it is not possible to continue as we are,” added Tony.
Anyone with some spare time he can help is urged to call Chairman Len Woodward on 01925 754180 or Secretary Tony Bone on 01925 753924.
If the branch was to close it would not affect the Royal British Legion club, which is now called The Boat Stage, based in the village centre near the Bridgewater Canal.
