Students perform at Pyramid

WARRINGTON Collegiate students have been treating visitors to the Pyramid centre to new impromptu performances.
TRASH, a collection of mini-performances, is a new and innovative way for the audience to experience drama, and Performing Arts students from the college have been performing in the main reception at the centre, including the lift.
Katie Bonney, Tutor in Performing Arts, explained: “The reaction of the audience is key to the success of TRASH. We had some amazing and very positive comments about the enthusiasm and professionalism of the students. This year we have some very talented students. We wanted to really stretch them and I’m delighted to say that they rose to the challenge and exceeded our expectations.”
The mini-performances were judged by Janey Moran and Derek Dick, representing Warrington Culture, a charitable trust delivering arts, heritage and events across the town.
The winners were Zac Hancock for his piece titled “Who was William Beamont”, “Chaotic Junk” by Alice Safrazyan and “Switches” the brainchild of Emma Shukie.
Student Jake Liken, who organised the marketing for the event, said: “Not only are the pieces cutting edge and daring, they are also site specific. There are many aims of these mini-performances which make up TRASH! from entertaining to testing social factors in the community. This is new, and so completely different to the classic front-on stage experience. TRASH incorporates a wide range of performances including ones you would least expect.”
Warrington Collegiate is now hoping to send some of its Performing Arts students to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.
