Planners approve another restaurant

PLANNING chiefs have given the go-ahead for another new restaurant in the centre of Culcheth – despite opposition from Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council.
The borough council’s planning committee has approved a change of use from retail to restaurant for a single-storey unit currently under construction in Common Lane.
Members of the parish council had argued that residents consulted in connection with the Parish Plan and indicated there were already “more than enough” restaurants in the village.
One restaurant had recently ceased trading, confirming that the local market was saturated.
They also argued the development would seriously affect the viability of the village centre because ot its impact on available parking.
A total of 41 parking spaces would be inadequate for a 136-seat restaurant.
But officers recommended the scheme be approved. They said the development would create jobs and have a positive impact on the evening vitality of the village, and the existing car park would be able to accommodate any increased parking.
They pointed out that even including pubs and takeaways, the number of units with food and drink uses in the village was less than 20 per cent.

  1. So now we know, just like other developments in the village, some people can make application to build one scheme and change it after you have obtained consent.

Sounds familiar with what passes for planning in these parts or some people?

What is the point in inviting comments from the residents if they cannot be sure what they are commenting on?
