WARRINGTON Wolves star Ben Harrison and mascot Wolfie were on hand to launch the new TRY Reading Project for Warrington at LiveWire libraries ahead of this year’s Rugby League World Cup.
Working in partnership with The Big Lottery, Arts Council England and the Warrington Wolves Foundation, LiveWire are celebrating the major sporting event of the year, the Rugby League World Cup 2013 by encouraging more people in Warrington to get reading.
Harrison read ‘What’s a Bear to Wear’ the new book about Grubber, the Rugby League World Cup mascot by Tom Palmer to over 50 children from local primary schools St. Augustine’s Catholic Primary School and St Peter’s Catholic Primary School alongside discussing Warrington players’ favourite books and how Warrington is hosting the Samoan team later this year.
Mrs Towey, Head Teacher of St. Augustine’s said “It was really enjoyable and good to see a sportsman acting as a role model. Well done Ben! Nice to get the schools mixing.” While one pupil summed up the session saying “It was cool today. I wish to come here again.”
Once the school session finished Wolfie and Ben Harrison met the Challenge Cup in Woolston Library to launch the project to the general public and pose for photos.
LiveWire are part of 30 library services in the North West, Yorkshire and Humber regions rolling out this project and encouraging people to Try Reading!
Fiona Barry, LiveWire’s Community Libraries Manager said “Try Reading is a great project and the perfect opportunity to reach new audiences in Warrington. We will be holding events, activities and competitions for the whole family throughout the year, which will culminate in the tournament in October and November, so watch this space!”
