Warning on drugs and drink

AN increase in the use of prescription drugs alongside alcohol in Warrington is worrying the borough Drug and Alcohol Action Team.
The team is warning of the dangerous consequences that can arise from such behaviour.
A spokesman said: “Side effects can be serious and can include problems with dizziness, balance and co-ordination. It can also cause blurred or double vision, confusion and can lead to changes in behaviour, making people more abusive or aggressive.
“In extreme circumstances combining the two in large volumes can lead to unconsciousness, blackouts, or coma and even death.”
The team warns that when taking prescription medications, users should follow the advice given by their doctor and read the instructions and guidance carefully to avoid serious or even fatal consequences.
Further information about the dangers of substance abuse and sources of advice in the local area can be found at www.warrington.gov.uk or through CRI Pathways to Recovery on 01925 415176.
