WARRINGTON Borough Council is getting behind an international campaign to raise awareness of and support Autism month.
Today (Tuesday) is World Autism Awareness Day and the Mayor, Cllr Steve Wright, leader of the council Cllr Terry O’Neill, and Cllr Colin Froggatt, executive member of children and young people’s services, will be visiting the Play and Sensory Centre for a special session.
The centre will be linking in with the international campaign to support autism month called “Light it up blue” and will be taking part in activities such as eating blue food, wearing blue and enjoying arts and crafts activities with a blue theme.
As the sun goes down this evening, even Warrington Town Hall will be lit up blue.
The Town Hall will join iconic landmarks, hotels, sporting venues, concert halls, museums, bridges and retail stores across the country that take part to Light It Up Blue.
Cllr Froggatt said: “We’re proud to join the Play and Sensory Centre as they pledge their support for autism and we hope lighting up the town hall for the town to see will really increase awareness of the month.”

Warrington North MP Helen Jones has also joined in supporting Autism Awareness Day.
She said: “I am proud to back World Autism Day. The NAS website has a wealth of information not only on how important awareness is for people who live with or have children who are on the Autistic spectrum, but also on the positive campaigns they run throughout the year. The work the NAS also do for adults living with Autism is inspiring and I’d urge people to log on and take a look at the great work they do.”
