One week to bin changes

2

STARTING next week, fortnightly bin collections will be rolled out in stages across Warrington.
On Wednesday April 3, residents with a Wednesday black bin collection will be moving to fortnightly bin collections.
Areas to be rolled out first are Stockton Heath, Appleton, Thelwall, Grappenhall and Lymm.
The new fortnightly collection scheme will mean one week the collection team will empty black bins and on the second week recycling blue and green bins will both be emptied.
An information pack and new collection sticker will be sent to each property shortly before the new service begins.
Householders can check the collection sticker to see if their first collection will be a recycling (blue/green) collection or a refuse collection (black bin).
Fortnightly bin collections will be introduced into all areas in Warrington over April and May.
All residents will get an introductory leaflet to explain when they are due to start with the new collections over the next month.
Cllr David Keane, the borough council’s executive member for environment and public protection, said: “This new simple scheme is designed to help us recycle and reduce our waste.
“There will be so many benefits, such as less confusion over bin collection days and a boost to our recycling rates, which are already strong but now we can make them even better. The move will help save money and will have really positive benefits on the environment.”

  1. A victory for common sense – its got to be better not paying people to empty half empty bins rather than finding other areas for cuts, so well done to the council

  2. you are still paying the same (if not more) council tax for half the service…. you must be either very rich or very deluded… there are plenty of places that could have been cut: The Chief Executives post for a start…. They’ll be turning street lights out next and going to monthly bin collections if people just carry on and accept this without comment.
