Residents get ready for Peel Hall battle

ANGRY residents fighting the controversial proposals to build 150 houses at Peel Hall, Warrington met to fine-tune their opposition to the scheme.
Members of an action committee – formed during a series of meetings held across the area affected by the proposals – met to discuss their approach.
The borough council’s development management committee will discuss the plans at a meeting at the Parr Hall on Thursday, March 7 when objectors will be able to voice their opposition.
The committee will not be able to refuse the application by Satnam Developments because the matter is being dealt with by the Planning Inspectorate.
But members can inform the Planning Inspectorate of their views.
The council has consistently opposed the scheme for years.
An action committee spokesman said: “There has been a tremendous wave of support to fight this development sited off Mill Lane. It is inappropriate, ill-conceived and unsustainable – we don’t want it. We live in a lovely village and we don’t want the only access road to become a rat run.”
Cllr Geoff Settle (pictured) who is a member of the planning committee said: “I have been against this development ever since the applicant bulldozed the area back in 2000. He destroyed much of the rich wildlife at the time and now proposes to concrete over a totally unsuitable location for such a development.
“The applicant’s plans and timing are highly suspect and don’t stand up under scrutiny”.
Two Facebook sites have been set up to keep people informed – Woodlandwildlife against the development of Radley Common and Fight against Peel Hall Development.

  1. Not sure why it should be a battle, as I understand it, planning department are recommending rejection, I doubt if the committee will vote to approve it, so it will be rejected, and the planning inspector will determine the application, which I guess was always going to be the outcome. All that the residents have to say is that they urge the committee to support the wise recommendation of their planners, no need for them to get hot under the collar and make aggressive speeches. Makes you wonder what might happen to this land, doubt if the developers will allow the matter to be forgotten if they don’t get planning permission. Will the MP be turning up to speak to the committee.

  2. planning made a balls up in the first place if they had done their job properly, there would be no enquiry and the birds, bees , flora and fauna could have existed in peace.
