Praise for church volunteers

COMMUNITY-minded volunteers from Hill Cliffe Baptist Church, Appleton have won praise from councillors for their hard work to improve the environment and people’s lives.
Jon and Becky Curtis (pictured) and their church team of volunteers, known as The Hive, can regularly be seen collecting litter in the Stockton Heath area.
Stockton Heath Parish Council praised the team for its work and contribution to the well being of the community.
Cllr Tudor Pole said: “Picking up other people’s rubbish is not everyone’s cup of tea. But it’s a task Jon and Becky Curtis with their band of volunteers from Hill Cliffe Baptist Church can be seen doing regularly in Stockton Heath.
“Picking up litter is not the only good deed performed by The Hive group. They also bake cakes and take them to the elderly or cook meals for those they know are in need or recovering from illness.”
Jon and Becky want to expand the area where they pick up litter, and hope in future to include the centre of the village.
Cllr Pole said: “They also hope to get to know people as they quietly go about their unenviable task and encourage support for their group. We’d like to help to build a community, where we know and support one another and have fun together.”
Anyone who would like to join The Hive should ring Jon or Becky on 01925 600843.
