Getting it right for young people

GETTING it right for young people – that’s the message coming out of Warrington Borough Council’s very first youth strategy.
The Integrated Youth Strategy 2012-2015 sets out to improve services, activities and access to facilities for young people in Warrington.
It has been developed in consultation with young people and in collaboration with a wide range of organisations that work with young people in Warrington.
Key priorities over the next three years are to listen to young people, help them to succeed, reduce negative behaviours which may put young people at risk, improve the quality of things to do and places to go in Warrington, improve public transport and help young people move into independent living.
Cllr Colin Froggatt (pictured), the borough council’s executive member for children and young people’s services, said: “It was crucial that young people worked with us so we could understand their needs when putting together this new strategy. Now we know exactly what they’re after and we can now try to make it a reality.”
Kath O’Dwyer, director of children and young people’s services, said: “This strategy really gives us a clear direction and we’ve already put the wheels in motion to improve opportunities for our young people.
“To meet one of our priorities ‘to help young people succeed’ we opened the careers centre in October and we will continue to look at what we can do so we can get it right for young people.”
