Promotion for Yvonne

FORMER borough councillor Yvonne Fovargue – now the MP for Makerfield – has been promoted as part of a mini-reshuffle of Labour’s frontbench team at Westminister.
Yvonne, 56, (pictured) who represented the Fairfield and Howley ward from 2004-2010, stepping down after winning her Parliamentary seat at the last General Election, has been appointed Shadow Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport.
She originally joined the Shadow frontbench in October 2011 as an opposition whip.
She accepted her new post after receiving a personal telephone call from Labour leader Ed Miliband.
Her portfolio includes buses, taxis, light rail and trams, traffic management, regional and local transport, natural environment, sustainable travel, accessibility and equalities, alternatives to travel and SMEs and growth.
Prior to becoming an MP, she was chief executive of St Helens Citizens’ Advice Bureau.
She said: “Making the right decisions on transport is a key issue not just in helping people get out and about, but also in promoting economic competitiveness. This holds true in towns and cities across the nation.
“My priority is and will always remain to put Makerfield first and I will give my all in the fight to secure prosperity for our area.”

  1. Can someone please tell me how on earth a former Warrington Councillor have traffic management in their portfolio??….. and yes we do need a ring road. Trouble is, the numpties in charge now would rather waste £750,000 on 20mph speed limits than doing something useful and worthwhile
