Drivers warned of hold-ups

MOTORISTS are being warned to expect hold-ups on the A56 Chester Road, south of Warrington as a result of a water main burst which occurred earlier this week.
Water is accumulating on the carriageway despite United Utilities stationing tankers on the site to draw off the surplus.
Temporary traffic lights have been installed at Higher Walton to try and minimise the impact on traffic flow.
The damaged main supplies the reservoir at Hill Cliffe and was originally turned off by United Utilities. But the sudden drop in levels at the reservoir was affecting the town’s water supplies so it had to be turned back on.
Engineers are installing an overland bypass which will result in the closure of Hollyhedge Lane. When this is operation, the damaged main can again be turned off and repairs carried out.
It is likely to be a day or two before the work is completed.
