PUPIL attainments at Croft’s St Lewis’ RC Primary School at the end of year six is above the national average in English and maths, according to education watchdog Ofsted.
Pupils’ behaviour is good and most parents are happy with the school and would recommend it to others.
But inspectors still say the school requires improvement.
Inspectors observed 17 lessons and talked to pupils, teachers, governors and parents about the school.
Teaching assistants are well used, pupils enjoy reading, the school library is effectively used to support learning and attendance is consistently above average.
The key areas for action are addressing the difference in achievement between boys and girls, ensuring consistent marking practices across all classes and the professional development of middle managers.
Head teacher Michael Boland said: “We are pleased that the report pulls out some real positives and highlights and that it confirms that the priorities we identified with the local authority for improvement are consistent. We are improving the learning experience all the time and will continue to do so.”
Inspectors also noted that the governing body is highly committed, supportive and that it has a good understanding of the school’s strengths and areas which need to be improved.
