Santa dash raises thousands for Brainwave

HUNDREDS of dashing Santas brought a whole lot of Christmas cheer to Birchwood helping raised thousands of pounds for the Brainwave charity.
Runners from all over the country braved the wet weather to take part in the third Brainwave 5k Santa Dash to raise an estimated £8,000 for the charity which provides therapy programmes for children with disabilities such as autism and cerebral palsy.
DJ Pete Pinnington led a Santa jive warm-up whilst Mayor of Warrington Cllr Steve Wright, James Mendeika of Warrington Wolves and 13-year-old Sam Crossley who has cerebral palsy and was an Olympic torch bearer, encouraged dashers as they ran a circular route through the shopping centre and into Forest Park.
Joanne Freeman, Community Fundraising Manager said: “It went really well and everyone got into the festive spirit and had great fun. I want to thank all the dashmakers for making the event extra special. Spectrum Striders Running Club, Birchwood Lions and our sponsor Birchwood Shopping Centre have made this event a success.
“The money raised from the dash will be used to enable many more children to reach their full potential and benefit from the support they are given at the Brainwave Centre here in Birchwood, Warrington.”
Next year’s Brainwave Santa Dash will be on December 8.
Meanwhile places on the Brainwave programme are available for children at all three Centres.
