New hub to tackle drink and drug addiction

A SPECIAL recovery hub believed to be the first of its kind in the country for those addicted to drink or drugs has been launched in Warrington.
The hub in Museum Street has the unique factor of tackling both drug and alcohol addictions together, and on one site.
It has attracted interest from as far away as Sweden – a delegation of specialists from there were “very impressed” with facilities when they visited earlier this year.
It aims to tackle substance abuse and help people beat their addiction. Staff offer a holistic approach to recovery and tackle other related issues to support clients as they move on, live independently and play a part in their local community.
Since it opened a few months ago several clients have completed the programme and are now in full time education, on training courses or have gained accredited volunteer status with agencies in the community.
The hub was initiated by Warrington Borough Council’s Drug and Alcohol Action Team. They work with partners such a Job Centre Plus and Warrington Collegiate, and are looking for more partners to be involved.
Cllr Pat Wright, (pictured right) executive board member for health and wellbeing and adult services, said: “National strategies are emphasising the need for councils to put recovery first and we are delighted that Warrington is ahead of the game.
“The innovative work being done here by our team of experts is all about getting people healthy and substance free so that they can move on with their lives and play a positive role within their local community.”
