Worries over speeding traffic

A COUNCILLOR is calling for measures to combat speeding motorists on a narrow lane used by hundreds of school children and their parents.
Cllr Chris Vobe (pictured) wants Warrington Borough Council to take action to address traffic problems in the Twiss Green area of Culcheth.
Local parents are increasingly concerned over traffic congestion and speeding issues, he says.
He said: “Traffic in this part of my ward was one of the key arguments put forward by those who opposed the recent Redrow development on Doeford Close – and it’s not hard to see why.
“The congestion in this vicinity is one aspect; another is the sheer speed of cars which travel down Twiss Green Lane.
“The lane itself is a narrow road, and is home to one of our local primary schools. Speeding cars are a serious health hazard and, particularly in an area where parents walk their children to school in the morning, action needs to be taken before there is a fatality.”
Cllr Vobe has sent consultation forms to more than 300 properties in the vicinity to canvass views and collect information about the extent of the problem.
He will then be meeting with traffic officers and council officials to request that appropriate measures are put in place to monitor and deal with the issue.
“The response to my local consultation has been strong. There is no doubt that people in the area remain very concerned at this matter. That is why they are now looking for strong and determined action to find a resolution,”

  1. Congestion and speeding issues to which the article refers are a serious problems on this narrow road, made all the more hazardous with cars parked on each side of the road for long periods each day. Rather than reminding parents about the green cross code it would be more sensible to remind the speeding petrolheads about their Highway Code obligations to drive at sensible speeds and to suit the prevailing road conditions.
