CULTURE Warrington – the new organisation which supports arts and culture for local people – was officially launched at the Pyramid and Parr Hall.
More than 100 people attended the opening event which also marked the end of the Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival.
Culture Warrington, which runs Pyramid and Parr Hall and Warrington Museum and Art Gallery, aims to offer arts and heritage events, together with classes for the community.
There were a range of performances at the launch including music, theatre, workshops, art displays and dance.
Maureen Banner, chairman of the board of trustees, said: “The launch night was very successful and showed that Culture Warrington is about involving all parts of the town.”
Joe Blott, executive director of Neighbourhood and Community Services at Warrington Borough Council, said: “So many councils up and down the country are reducing their cultural, heritage and events services but I believe them to be important to the wellbeing of the town so with this partnership with Culture Warrington we will ensure that our cultural heritage and Warrington’s unique identity will continue to be celebrated.”

  1. Apart from a jolly for those invited and a technical change in the organisation’s legal status – how is this actually going to change / safeguard anything – aren’t the activities outlined already carried out?

Will this move help safeguard budgets for culture, if so how?
