A WARRINGTON man was among the 19 people killed in the disastrous plane crash in Nepal.
Former head teacher Tim Oakes, aged 57, from Winwick, was one of nine Britons killed in the crash.
They were flying from Kathmandu to Lukla, near Mount Everest, and were intending to trek to the Everest base camp.
His wife, Angie Gaunt, said she and her daughter, Joanne, were in mourning.
But she said: “Tim was a mountaineer. He lived his life to the full and died doing what he had always wanted to do. He had always wanted to go to Everest base camp and to see Everest.”
Mr Oates, who worked as an education adviser with Lancashire County Council, had climbed several mountains.
His wife said he kept himself fit and had been “living his dream” when he went on the trip.
Joanne graduated this year.
The crash is believed to have been caused by the twin-engined Dornier aircraft striking a bird shortly after taking off. The pilot appeared to be attempting to return to Kathmandu airport when the plane burst into flames.
