Free composting initiative

A SCHEME to help people create their own free compost is being run by Warrington Borough Council.
The council in partnership with getcomposting.com is offering reduced price compost bins, from as little as £16 (plus £5.49 delivery).
It is advising people that to make good quality compost, it is important to have a good mix of materials. The aim should be a 50/50 mix of “greens” (vegetable peelings, old flowers, grass cuttings, spent bedding plants) and “browns” (garden prunings, coffee grounds, tissues and shredded paper and cardboard).
Cllr David Keane, executive board member for environment and public protection, said:”Composting this autumn’s garden waste will provide a free supply of nutritious soil conditioner that will enrich your spring planting, producing an abundance of flowers, fruit and vegetables next year.”
To order a bin call 0844 571 4444 or visit online at www.getcomposting.com
