TA girl helps protect the Olympics

A TERRITORIAL Army soldier from Warrington is playing a key role in protecting the Olympic Games.
Second Lieutenant Laura Alldritt, of 156 Transport Regiment, is working as part of the venue security team at Eton Dorney near Windsor, where the Olympic rowing and canoe sprint competitions are taking place.
Laura, 24, from Orford, said: “I’m happy to be playing a small part in such a massive event as the Olympics. I even managed to see Katherine Grainger and Anna Watkins win the double sculls Gold Medal – which was fantastic.”
Laura joined the TA’s Officer Training Corps in 2005 while attending Manchester University and transferred to 156 Transport Regiment last year.
At Eton Dorney, Laura has been working in the personal screening area alongside Regular soldiers in support of the police and the Home Office.
She said: “We’re here to make sure people are not bringing in restricted or prohibited items, and that they have a safe and enjoyable day. We have been dealing with people from right across the world. This is something that none of us have ever done before or will ever do again and I have enjoyed using my TA skills here.”
In her civilian life Laura is a bowling alley supervisor.
A football fan, she has been following the women’s soccer competition closely, she said: “The team GB squad did us proud and women’s football is on the increase. It was good to see it as an Olympic sport and our own team doing very well.”
