THE annual Winwick Carnival has been hailed a high flying success after attracting well over 3000 visitors.
Winwick Park Resident and May Queen, Miss Jenkinson officially opened the carnival with her specially prepared speech which preceded entertainment by Tricks 4 Treats dog display team, Above and Beyond Aerial Display Act and Legends dance academy.
Chairman Pete Howard of Falcondale Road said: “The annual carnival has become a way of life in Winwick and I am proud to be part of the organising committee. In the run up to the day we battled with the weather to ensure that the event went ahead ensuring people had the chance to take part in activities such as archery and climbing.”
Musical entertainment was provided by The Funky Monks, one of the UK’s best rock and pop cover bands and refreshments from Winwick Leisure Centre.
More than 30 stall-holders attended selling everything from jewellery to cakes and face painting to promoting a variety of charitable organisations.
There was also a raffle to win an ipad and vouchers which were kindly donated by this year’s event sponsor boohoo.com.
“The day was a great success, it was wonderful to see so many families come along to enjoy the shows, have fun on the fair and enjoy visiting the stalls. We are grateful to everyone who made the effort to come along, get involved and to help keep traditions alive for our local community,” said entertainment coordinator David Shaw of Arbury Lane.
For the second year, the Committee we will be making a donation to the St Oswald’s church roof fund from profits made on the day.
