Father and son pick up degrees

A FATHER and son are celebrating after obtaining degrees from two different universities.
Geoff Settle – a member of Warrington Borough Council – graduated at Liverpool University and was awarded a MSc in Information Systems.
The same day, his son, Nick, learned he had passed his BA with Honours in Sports Coaching from Chester University.
Geoff said: “I am more proud of his achievements than mine, especially because at the age of 19 he went under the knife for his third cruciate ligament operation. This effectively put an end to playing a game he loves.
“It didn’t dampen his enthusiasm for it and I would also like to thank all at the Wolves for the support and encouragement that they gave him. He will be there at Wembley yet again to cheer you on”.
Nick studied for his BTECH in sports coaching at Priestley College and developed his practical skills as a primary link coach with Wolves.
He is now the North Yorkshire Service Area Co-ordinator for the Rugby Football League based in York.
Geoff began his degree course more than six years ago when he was working as an application support manager in Knowledge Management.
His dissertation was about eCommunications and their use by borough councillors and members of the House of Keys on the Isle of Man.
He interviewed constituents about their perception of the ways that members communicate and resolve issues and requests. More than 400 people were involved in the study across Warrington and Douglas.
His wife and son were with him when he received his degree.

  1. Hi Nick I was waiting for your comment I’ve emailed Archie the link and checked my certificate from the Vice-Chancellor and both agree that it was Information Systems.

  2. Well done Geoff and son…. two points though:…. why don’t you look very happy and what on earth is an “application support manager in Knowledge Management”?? 🙂
