MORE than 1,400 women braved the elements to take part in St. Rocco’s Hospice seventh Starlight Walk which took place at the new Orford Jubilee Park – pledging more than £150,000 for the charity!
Singer Stuart Waldron and DJ Chris O’Grady kicked off the night with a two hour stage show that featured performances from northern comedienne Mrs Barbara Nice, local singer Poppy Bridge, dancers from the Appleton Thorn School of dance and a Zumba themed warm up!
Newly appointed Hospice Matron Alison White joined the Mayor of Warrington Cllr Steve Wright and his wife, Mrs Julie Wright on stage to wave the ladies off at midnight on their 6.5 or 13 mile walk through the streets of Warrington.
The walk was supported by over 200 volunteer marshals who stayed up through the night to ensure the safety of the ladies along the route, many of them brought tins of sweets and chocolates to pass out to the ladies as they passed their checkpoint.
A team of volunteers from the Territorial Army provided refreshments.
Over £150,000 was pledged on the night which will go towards providing care and support to St. Rocco’s patients and their families with more pledges still coming in!
Hospice Matron Alison said “It was fantastic to see so many ladies battling the wind and rain to take part in the Starlight Walk. So many wonderful people supported us this year, we would like to say a big thank you to Livewire Warrington and Warrington Borough Council for allowing us to host the walk from Jubilee Orford Park – it was truly an amazing event that will make a huge difference to all those we care for.”
Over the last seven years over 10,000 women have raised over £1million at the St. Rocco’s Hospice Starlight Walk.
