A CAMPAIGN in Warrington aims to get young people involved in the arts to counteract cuts in the regions arts funding.
Golden Square Shopping Centre’s “Get Creative” campaign is in response to cuts in arts funding for schools and voluntary organisations.
It aims to encourage families to spend more time together on arts activities. It has gained support from “Bob the Builder” writer Curtis Jobling and Culture Warrington.
Curtis said: “I’m more than happy to support Get Creative this year as creativity factors into every area of my life, it always has. Any area of the arts – be it music, painting or even cartoon drawing, can be at the very least an interesting hobby for families or it could even be the start of an exciting career!”
The campaign launched with hundreds of children participating in a variety of art classes at the centre. A series of music-inspired events is also planned.
Centre manager Ian Cox said: “By bringing such a variety of family art-centric events through this legacy event we can help engage with Warrington’s designers, authors and musicians of the future.”
