WARRINGTON student James Giblin, 19, has been named VQ (vocational qualification) Learner of the Year for the North West.
The awards mark the contribution that vocational qualifications bring to learners, businesses and society.
Warrington Collegiate Public Services student James now goes forward to the national awards ceremony in London tomorrow (Wednesday).
He impressed the judges with his exemplary attitude to his work for the Diploma in Public Services, and demonstrated how his studies have helped his progression.
His childhood ambition was to be a fire officer and he is a member of the Fire Cadets, where he volunteers. He is currently placed at Birchwood and Stockton Heath Fire Station as a fire cadet leader and helps those working towards a BTEC National Diploma in Fire Safety.
After completing his Level 3 Diploma in July, he will be attending Wolverhampton University to study for a Fire and Rescue Degree.
Last year James rescued a member of the public who was trapped under some scaffolding at an eatery near the college. He was awarded the Community Safety Award from Cheshire Fire and Rescue.
