Carnival in the rain!

A MINI-parade, led by Warrington Pipe Band, put everyone in carnival mood at the annual Birchwood Carnival – despite heavy rain.
The event, at Birchwood Forest Park, was officially opened by Birchwood Town Council chairman Muriel Hearldon
Woodland Children’s Centre won first prize for the best walking group in the procession, with the 2nd Oakwood Brownies taking second prize and 2nd Locking Stumps Rainbows the third.
The fourth prize was sharted by Oakwood Guides and Moss Edge Senior Section.
There were daring and skilful mountain bike demonstrations by MJ Cycles and MTB Trials Display Team and talented local singer Hollie Caddock got the crowd in party spirit with a set of rousing pop hits.
Stage Express entertained the crowd with their impressive display of song and dance and, as they carried on through the increasingly heavy rain were thoroughly deserving of the £100 donation given by the Carnival Committee.
Other attractions included circus skills, magic shows, donkey rides and ferret walking and there were about 20 charity stalls to visit.
A local history display put together by the Rangers and local enthusiast Brian Tuohey attracted a lot of interest. Brian was on hand all day, armed with maps past and present, to answer questions about the Risley Royal Ordnance Factory.
A spokesperson for the Carnival Committee thanked all involved in making the event a great success.
Anyone who would like to get involved with next year’s carnival, or join the committee should call David on 01925 824239 or call at the Ranger Centre at Birchwood Forest Park.
