School funding welcomed

GOVERNMENT funding to improve William Beamont Community High School has been welcomed by local Liberal Democrats.
Money for the school is being made available from the new Priority School Building Programme.
Council opposition spokesperson for Education, Cllr Peter Walker, (pictured) said, “This is great news and will be a welcome boost for the school after losing out when the previous Government’s Building Schools for the Future PFI scheme was cancelled.
“Across the country 261 schools will be rebuilt and money has gone to those which are in the greatest need. The government is determined to improve the value for money from every pound spent on improving our schools.”
Lib Dem Council Group Leader Ian Marks said the previous BSF scheme was bureaucratic and had long term cost implications.
“When we embarked on it a few years ago we were forced by the then Labour Government to take on five different consultants to support our bid,” he said.
“The new scheme will be much more cost effective, less bureaucratic and provide schools with greater flexibility. Several of our schools need rebuilding or refurbishing but William Beamont was always a top priority.”

  1. Let’s hope the money is spent on ACTUAL improvements – unlike the previous Labour’ government’s BSF programme which forced councils to line the pockets of consultants and wasted a disgusting amount of money (and time) on conferences, focus groups, PR etc

If it wasn’t for that, typically, irresponsible expenditure other school could also now be benefiting.
