Selfish dog owners slammed

A “SELFISH minority” of dog owners who fail to clear up dog fouling have been criticised by a newly-elected Culcheth councillor.
Cllr Chris Vobe (pictured) wants action to end dog fouling in Newchurch.
He said: “The vast majority of dog owners are responsible and considerate, but a selfish minority are causing this nuisance.”
During his election campaign he highlighted the problem of dog fouling in the Thames Road/Severn Road area and has vowed not to let the situation rest.
He said: “Dog fouling represents a significant health hazard on our streets, and it seems that this particular area of Newchurch has become especially vulnerable.
“This problem has been going on for quite some time – and now, frankly, enough is enough Severn Road and Thames Road have had repeated problems with dog fouling, thanks to owners who fail to clean up after their pets.”
He said he wants street cleaning in the area increased but also action taken against culprits. He has contacted senior council officers and also will take up the matter at parish council meetings.
“People in Newchurch take pride in their environment, so it is high time that officers rewarded their vigilance by working to put an end to this problem,” he said.

  1. Entirely agree with Cllr Vobe, the vast majority of dog owners clear up after their pooches and pups have done the business. Most also maintain tight control of their animals when in public places, with leads and muzzles, which is laudable because not everyone is easy with dogs around. Some owners however, let their pets roam and run around uncontrolled, then remonstrate with the more considerate owners when canine punch-ups occur as they surely will when controlled and uncontrolled dogs meet.
