Fire safety warning

FIREFIGHTERS have issued safety advice about storing rubbish following a wheelie bin fire in Warrington.
Crews were called to a fire involving a gate and a wheelie bin at Nook Lane. A hose reel water jet was used to extinguish the fire.
After tackling the blaze officers gave safety advice to keep bin fires to a minimum. This includes not storing rubbish or wheelie bins/refuse containers by windows or doors to prevent the spread of fire to a property.
Officers also say bins should not be over filled or left with loose rubbish around them. They say bins should be stored behind locked gates where possible and only put out on collection day to minimise the risk of being set on fire.
They also say that bins and rubbish should not be allowed to block escape routes.
