Phil wins top national award

A WARRINGTON recycling expert has won a top national award for his work.
Phil Chadwick, from the borough council’s recycling team picked up the title “Local Authority Recycling Champion” after being nominated by his line manager, Andy Cutts.
He received the award from TV personality Jon Snow at a special ceremony.
Phil is the town’s fiercest recycling advocate and spends his days as education and promotions officer visiting schools to spread the word about the importance of reducing, reusing or recycling waste.
Last year he visited more than 100 local schools, engaging with almost 4000 pupils.
He was nominated for the award because, according to Mr Cutts, he puts 110 per cent into everything he does.
Phil has been in his current role for six years within the waste minimisation and recycling team and during that time recycling levels in the borough have more than doubled.
He recently carried out some targeted doorstepping in three areas of low recycling participation, knocking on more than 1500 doors.
Phil said of the award: “It’s a real honour to be recognised for my work.”
The Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management, now in their ninth year, are organised by www.letsrecycle.com

This is great news I only found out at this week Climate Change Board Meeting and was very pleased indeed.

Phil the Legend is a fantastic ambassador not only for the need to re-cycle but also for Warrington with a lovely personality and engaging quality.

I’ve only known him for just over a year but he made a tremendous impression on me. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with him at promoting the use of the blue bins in my ward and working in my local primary school. It was great to see how he captivated and engaged the young people with his story telling and practical projects. As an associate of Young Enterprise where we do similar work focused on Business I learnt so much by working with him. He joined us for a Master Class we ran at William Beamont and he had a similar impact on the older young people. He tells me that he has been to every school in Warrington to promote his work which he really enjoys.

He is inventive, creative and recently opened an educational classroom at the Gatewarth waste treatment centre. The place is amazing and took a tremendous amount of work and drive and any children who go there to learn about waste and re-cycling will also get the opportunity to learn about the nature reserve close by.

I liken him to a mini version of Billy Connolly minus the swearing – I now know why everybody calls him Phil the Legend.
