Dog attack: police still hunt man

POLICE are today still hunting a man who walked away after his two dogs – believed to be Staffordshire Bull Terriers – had attacked a woman at Warrington, leaving her with severe wounds requiring hospital treatment.
The attack took place on the Black Bear footpath at Latchford, where the woman was walking her own dog.
The two dogs were with a man, but were not on a lead.
They attacked the woman’s dog and then turned on her when she tried to intervene.
The man – who had a third dog, also thought to be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier – on a chain, walked away without stopping to enquire about the woman’s condition, or that of her dog.
Police are appealing for witnesses of the attack at about 5.10pm on Wednesday (April 25).
The woman sustained numerous deep cuts and puncture wounds to various parts of her body including her arms, legs and left hand.
Her nose cartilage was also torn and had to be re-attached by doctors. The woman was treated at Warrington Hospital and has since been discharged.
Her dog sustained several puncture wounds to the lower body. It was taken to a local veterinary surgery for treatment.
PC Katie Wardle said: “This was a vicious and unprovoked attack on a woman and a dog. This was a traumatic experience for the woman and she sustained serious injuries as a result.
“We are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. It took place in the early evening when it was still light so we are hoping someone may have seen something significant, which could assist with our enquiries.
“We are also urging anyone who knows the identity of the man who was with the dogs to come forward.
“The man walked away in the direction of Cantilever Bridge without leaving his details or checking on the condition of the victim or her dog.”
The man who was with the dogs is described as about 5ft 10 inches tall, of medium build, approximately 40-50 years-old with short dark black hair. He was unshaven, spoke with a local accent and was wearing a dark top and blue jeans.
The two dogs were black and one had a pink studded collar and the other a blue studded collar.
Police say the third dog appeared to be older.
Anyone with any information is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101.
Information can also be passed on anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.

  1. Why do we allow people to keep these bull terriers as pets? Totally beyond me. They are vicious animals that should be chained, muzzled and locked outside

  2. In Austria, all dogs have to be muzzled when out in public. Introduce it to the UK, and those that are not should be taken away and destroyed, and some might say along with their owners.
