Village can save £750,000 a year

LYMM spends around £7 million a year on gas and electricity – but there is potential to save more than £750,000.
This has been revealed by Low Carbon Lymm’s Local Energy Assesment Fund (LEAF) project.
The results were presented to an invited audience at the Youth and Community Centre opened by Warrington South MP David Mowat.
Colourful maps of the different areas of Lymm were on display showing house types and ages, with examples of potential energy and carbon savings for typical properties
Information and advice on how to achieve energy savings was provided at the event.
Low Carbon Lymm spokesman Richard Pearce said Lymm had the potential to save more than £750,000 a year on gas and electricity in homes through cost-effective measures such as insulation, boiler replacement, heating controls and energy efficient lighting.
More savings could be achieved through a wide range of “no and low cost” actions such as turning heating thermostats down by 1oC, switching off appliances rather than leaving them on standby and buying energy efficient appliances.
Residents who attended said they were impressed at the amount of work that had gone into the project and more than 80 per cent said they had been inspired to make changes in their use of energy in the home as a result of the event.
A full report on the LEAF project will be produced soon and in the meantime Low Carbon Lymm will be working on an action plan to realise the potential energy and cost savings through targeted campaigns on the high priority measures.

  1. at first glance it sounded as tho Lymm had come up with a revolutionary plan to save £750,00 !

when you read into it – it applies to everyone who lives in a building- anywhere in the world – not just Lymmites!

We can all save money by implementing Lymm’s ‘ideas’ !
