REIGNING Superkart Champion Paul Platt, 27, from Warrington had a successful day at the BRSCC Race Day at Oulton Park.
In the practice session he could only manage 4th place after his engine seized. It was with minutes to go to the start of the first race that the engine was rebuilt by Paul and his mechanics.
Not wanting to put much strain on the engine he dropped to 6th place, but as the races went on he was able to increase the power and worked his way to take first place.
The second race was Paul’s all the way. He led from the first lap and was able to ease off towards the end of the race winning in a time of 15:21.430 (3.562 secs in front of the 2nd place Kart) an average speed of 94.65mph for the nine lap race on the full Olton Park International Circuit (2.6920 miles).
The races were the first of the season for the MSA British Superkart Championship and gave Paul a flying start in the defence of his 2011 MSA British Superkart Championship.
He said: “I was a bit worried when the engine seized in practice but hard work by the mechanics got me to the start in time. It was nice to get the first wins in the first race of the season and I hope I can continue for the others races.”

Pictures show Paul in action during the races and with his trophy and raised arm salute as he crosses the finish line during the second race.
