THREE Warrington youngsters picked up awards in the finals of the 8th biennial Warrington Competition for Young Musicians at Arley Hall.
They were Beth Simms, from Lymm, who won the Rushworth Shield for showing potential, Olivia Brougham, voice, from Stockton Heath who came third in the Lower Division and (pictured) Meera Maharaj, flute, from Stockton Heath who came third in the Upper Division
Winner of the Lower Division was Ehren Agarwal, saxophone, from St Helens while the Upper Division was won by Rachel Hoffman, ‘cello, from Hartford.
The adjudicators were all well respected professional musicians in the North West.
Warrington Arts Council Initiative for the Development of Music (WACIDOM) organised the competition and chairman Norman Cutter said:”Arley Hall itself adds immeasurably to the overall ambience of the competition and every entrant will have gained pleasure in performing there, in addition to the benefits received from the guidance and masterclasses incorporated into the competition. As one adjudicator put it, there is a nice emphasis on the performance aspect over the competitive aspect”.
