15-year planning blueprint approved

WARRINGTON’s planning blueprint for the next 15 years has been approved by the borough council and has been submitted to the government for independent examination.
It sets out a framework to shape the way the borough will develop up to the year 2027 and is described as “the bar against which all future planning applications will be assessed.”
Andy Farrall (pictured), the borough council’s executive director of environment and regeneration said: “The new development plan will be one of the borough’s most important strategies in ensuring that on-the-ground activity makes Warrington one of the best places to live and work in the UK.”
The council’s decision to progress the plan came just ahead of the publication of the government’s National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), which attempts to make the planning system clearer, simpler and easier to put into practice.
It also means that all councils now only have 12 months to ensure their local plans are in place.
Mr Farrall added: “Our local development plan is on schedule to meet the new national deadlines which will ensure that we are ahead of the game and can continue to lead the local development agenda.”
A public consultation will take place next month and residents, businesses and other stakeholders will have their chance to give feedback on the plan before it is independently examined in the autumn.
A copy of the draft plan can be found on the borough council website, www.warrington.gov.uk

  1. …and they’ll stick to it right up to the point they decide not to. Just like they did with the UDP.

Any idea when the results of the inquiry into the destruction of planning records will be published?

  2. Perhaps the results will be yet another embarrassing series of black marks for the Council? They should be after what came to light during the inquiry and was then plonked in to the public domain. Explaining all that away will take some doing. Those new documents show this cannot be said to be the whole story, no matter how hard they try to convince us. With an election in the offing inevitably behind the scenes negotiations will be needed before we are palmed off with yet another meaningless form of words. My guess is the delay is deliberate and calculated to induce amnesia and apathy in the electorate.
