Young musicians contest finals

THE finals of the eighth biennial Warrington Competition for Young Musicians take place this weekend at Arley Hall.
There were a record number of entries from all over Cheshire, Merseyside and parts of Greater Manchester.
All the heats and masterclasses have been completed and the finals will take place on Sunday, with the Lower Division (Grades 4-6) starting at 10.30am, admission £5.
The Upper Division (Grades 7 and upward) starts at 2pm, admission £8.
A number of young musicians from the Warrington area will be taking part in the finals.
In the Lower Division will be singer Olivia Brougham from Stockton Heath and Beth Simms from Lymm who has already been awarded the Rushworth Shield for the performer showing the most potential during the initial stages of the Lower Division.
In the Upper Division, violinist Hannah Leighton-Jones from Lymm won through as did saxophonist Josh Briegal from Walton and flautist Meera Maharaj from Grappenhall.
The competition is organised by the Warrington Arts Council Initiative for the Development of Music (WACIDOM).
