THREE AS Chemistry students from Priestley College have won the Liverpool and District Heat of the Royal Society of Chemistry Schools Analyst Competition.
Students Abygail Davies, Nick Evans and Chris Hammond, who have all achieved grade A’s in their first AS Chemistry unit exam, competed in the competition held at Liverpool University, working in the undergraduate laboratories on three Olympic themed practical tasks. They are now all very excited about going on to represent the region in the National finals at Bristol University in June.
Chris Hammond said : “It was great to have experience working in an undergraduate laboratory and get an insight into what it would be like to study a Degree in Chemistry. All this and it was really fun.’’
Head of Chemistry, Barbara Schofield said ‘’It was a difficult decision for the department to choose three students to represent the College from the 130 AS students studying Chemistry but Abygail, Chris and Nick showed confidence and determination to win in what was a tough competition against 20 of the top schools and sixth forms in the region. We are extremely proud that they will now represent the Merseyside area in the National competition.’’
