MORE snow fall overnight caused further misery for Warrington residents this morning with travel disruption and school closures.

As further flurries affected the town bringing chaos for motorists and pedestrians alike, Bridgewater High School in Appleton, Chapelford Village Primary School and Westbrook Old Hall Primary were the latest to announce their closure for the day due to the icy conditions.
Parents were notified as the area was badly affected by snow, meaning roads leading up to the school were treacherous for those walking or driving there. Yesterday, Lymm High School was shut as it was badly affected by ice and black ice.
Yesterday, colleges, primary schools and high schools closed their doors due to ‘dangerous’ onsite conditions and today, although some of these have reopened, others have closed, including Great Sankey High and Warrington & Vale Royal College for a second day.

Traffic was heavy around town as motorists were forced to reduce their speed due to the wintry conditions.
Another yellow Met Office weather warning for snow and ice was issued for Warrington. It expires at 11 am today.
The warning came into effect from midnight on Thursday, January 9. It says: “Snow and icy patches leading to some travel disruption.
“Snowy, wintry weather can cause delays and make driving conditions dangerous. Keep yourself and others safe by planning your route, giving yourself extra time for your journey. Check for road closures or delays to public transport and amend plans if necessary.
“If driving, make sure you have some essentials in your car in the event of any delays (eg warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, a torch, ice scraper/de-icer, a warning triangle, high visibility vest and an in-car phone charger.”
It also warned of “some icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths. Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.”
The weather forecast today is snow and wintry showers, feeling cold but pleasant in the sun. Maximum temperatures will reach 4C, but it will feel colder.
Tonight showers will fade leading to a dry night with light winds. However, it will turn very cold under widespread clear skies with a severe frost, freezing fog patches and icy stretches developing. The minimum temperatures will plummet to -5C.
Friday looks likely to be another cold and dry day with maximum temperatures of 3C.
