New village's best year yet

WARRINGTON’S newest community – the Chapelford urban village – should enjoy its best year yet this year, according to a local councillor.
Cllr Faisal Rashid says he is pleased with recent progress after years of what he describes as “neglect” of residents’ views by both the borough council and the developers.
A six-month plan has been put forward including the creation of five natural ponds, new play equipment is to be installed in community woodland area Our Wood and the new Dakota Park should be completed by the end of March.
Said Cllr Rashid: “Three large sculptures will be installed and they look great.
“I am confident Dakota Park will be open to the public in April.”
A supermarket, pub restaurant, shops and health centre should open during the summer, adding to the community’s facilties.
Parking is an issue, however.
“We need to ensure residents park on their allocated spaces rather than blocking cycle or bus lanes.
“This will be taken forward once roads get adopted by the council and then we will look at enforcement after consultation with the local residents and resident’s association.”
A new, two form entry school is expected to be ready early next year, if not by the end of this year.
A group of people joined together to form a community association, a charity has been registered and fund-raising is going on with residents keen to build a community centre.
Cllr Rashid added: “I am pleased with the progress we have made and 2012 is going to be the best year yet for the residents of Chapelford.”

  1. I don’t think Cllr Rashid can claim any praise for Chapelford – he’s only been a Councillors since May and all the hard work has done by the current councillors.

  2. Cllr Rachid has done a good job but only because of the outstanding work already done not by previous councillors but by a resident David Weaver, he has done more work than any councillor for the people of Chapelford and should have been recognised in this piece and any piece before this.

  3. Cllr Rashid has done a good job but only because of the work of a resident David Weaver and not because of previous Councillors.

I am a bit confused as to how a Councillor can take all the credit for all the hard work and time (no expenses claims from him) David has put into Chapelford which even culminated in David cleaning up Burtonwood Road, all 13 bin bags of it and setting up a community clean up operation this Saturday.

    Well done David!
