PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have thrown out proposals for telecommunications equipment on the roof of an apartment building.
The scheme was put forward by EE for the rooftop of Roebuck Plaza in Buttermarket Street near its junction with Academy Street.
Rejecting the scheme, officers said the development would be a unattractive and visually intrusive collection of incongruous equipment on the roof of a prominent building causing harm to the setting of nearby Listed buildings and to the appearance of a conservation area.
The applicant argued that the development was not new, but was to replace a nearby installation that had been decommissioned.
Althouigh it would be on the roof of a residential property, the surround area was commercial and the equipment would be minimally intrusive
