Up to five weeks of road closures for resurfacing works on Manchester Road

UP to five weeks of road closures for resurfacing works are set to start on Manchester Road, Woolston, Warrington, this Monday, October 14.

The road closures are programmed to commence from Monday 14 October 2024, and weather permitting it will take 4 to 5 weeks to complete the resurfacing element of the scheme, which will also include resurfacing at the end of Weir Lane.

The works will include the reconstruction and realignment of the existing pedestrian island in Weir Lane and may also include a new pedestrian island on Manchester Road to the west of Weir Lane, which may the first part of further pedestrian and cycle improvements in the area.
All roads will be fully open to traffic outside the working times.
Vehicular access will be under the control of the Contractor on site.
Vehicles parked on the road, verge or footway obstructing the works may be removed.
The signed diversion route will be via Woolston Grange Avenue, A574 Birchwood Way, A50 Orford Road, A50 Orford Green, A50 School Road, A50 Long Lane, A49 Winwick Road, A49 Lythgoes Lane and vice versa.

Residents/businesses needing access to closed sections of road should speak to the contractor as they will provide as much access as is safe to do so, however there will be times, for example when the road surface is being removed or relaid when there may be no access for several hours.
With regard to residential access, when the works are at the Riversdale end of the scheme traffic will need to come and go from the town centre direction, and when the works are at the other end of the scheme then all traffic will need to go out via Woolston Grange Avenue, etc.

The closures will impact local bus services on Manchester Road, Martinscroft between Gig Lane and Woolston Grange Avenue which will be closed on Monday to Fridays between 19:00 – 01:00 for up to 5 weeks. Saturday and Sunday will be open as normal.
Departures from Warrington to Hollins Green from 1850 onward will terminate at Gig Lane. A shuttle bus will operate between Gig Lane and Hollins Green, which will travel via Birchwood Way and Woolston Grange Avenue.
The shuttle bus will depart Gig Lane at 19:47, 20:47, 21:47 and 22:47. It will depart from Hollins Green at 19:15, 20:15, 21:15 and 22:15 which you can then change on to Service 3 to carry on to Warrington.
