A controversial bus lane in Warrington town centre will be suspended for four weeks later this month (October) while Cadent Gas carries out mains replacement works.
The bus lane was meant with anger by local motorists when it was put into operation in 2020, with many caught out by £60 fines (£30 if paid within 14 days.)
Warrington Borough Council has given notice it intends to make an Order under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be to temporarily suspend The Borough of Warrington (Academy Street and Scotland Road) (One Way Traffic and Bus Lane) Order 1991 in so far as it relates to the Bus Lane on Academy Street which extends from its junction with the eastern boundary of Academy Way to its junction with the southern boundary of Buttermarket Street.
The Order will be effective from 27th October 2024 for 4 weeks, as and when signed on site. Access will be under the control of the relevant Contractor for the duration of the works. The alternative route will be via Mersey Street, Dial Street and Buttermarket Street. The restrictions are required to allow Cadent Gas to carry out mains replacement work.
