M56 closed at Stretton due to serious police incident

UPDATED: THE M56 at Stretton, Warrington, has now fully re-opened after being closed in both directions last night due to a serious police incident.

The closure was due to a North West Motorway Police led incident which resulted in the M56 being closed in both directions between J10 (Warrington) and J11 (Runcorn). Traffic Officers assisted with strategic closures on the approach.

The M56 eastbound at J10 Warrington has since re-opened.

But the westbound carriageway remained closed this morning with traffic being diverted via the exit and entry slip roads.

At 10:45am this morning Cheshire Police confirmed: “Following an emergency response to an incident last night between junction 10 and junction 11 of the M56 near Warrington, we are able to confirm that the road closure has now been removed and the carriageway is now open in both directions.
“We would like to thank you for your patience whilst the incident was dealt with.”
