Large wooden animals become latest additions at Walton Gardens Children’s Zoo

THE Learner Media Team from Walton Lea Partnership officially handed over several large wooden animals to Peter Cookson Dean, the Zookeeper at Walton Hall & Gardens.

The animals which included a 4ft Rabbit, two 3ft ducks, a three ft chicken and a two ft round guinea pig, were handmade by the nine learners in the Media Team, guided by Volunteer Diane Gardner.

The project was part of a series of challenges set by Peter to the Media Team which meets at Walton Hall each Wednesday.

As Peter explained, “we had a few buildings within the Zoo which needed brightening up and I knew exactly the people for the job… The Media Team! They’re a really talented and creative bunch and have already made me a Bug Hotel and some nesting boxes. I know the children visiting the zoo will be really thrilled to see these new animals.”

Walton Lea Volunteer Diane led the team in researching images which were projected onto the wood and cut out. The Learners then sanded and painted the Animals before handing them over with great pride.

The Learner Media Team is from Walton Lea Partnership which is a Charity providing work based learning for adults with additional needs.
