A young Warrington man who threatened to knife his brother ended up injuring their dad who had disarmed him.

Oliver Anderson, armed with a kitchen knife, went round to the house where his brother and dad, Matthew Anderson, reside after seeing his brother in a pub and threatening to kill him.

When his dad saw the weapon in his pocket he grabbed it and threw it away to prevent him carrying out his threats to injure his brother.
But in a struggle the 23-year-old injured his father’s left thumb and shoulder and during the incident also threatened to smash windows and his car, Liverpool Crown Court heard.
Anderson, of Pinewood Avenue, Fairfield and Howley, has now been given an 18 month jail sentence suspended for two years.

Judge Ian Harris also imposed a six month drug rehabilitation requirement which he said may include mindfulness and acupuncture.
He ordered him to carry out 20 day rehabilitation activities and imposed a seven year restraining order.

The judge said that Anderson had “a fractured upbringing” and has previously had suicidal thoughts and taken an overdose.
The defendant’s barrister Jemma Gordon said that he had a history of mental health issues and is having counselling for childhood trauma.
He had no previous convictions and recognised his issues of drugs and alcohol would benefit from probation intervention, she added.
Anderson pleaded guilty to threatening to damage property, possessing a kitchen knife in Bardsley Avenue, Warrington, and assault by beating on June 1 this year.
