DETECTIVES from the Economic Crime Unit at Cheshire Police have arrested a man in connection with the fraudulent mis-selling of cars in Warrington.
At around 5.30am today, Tuesday 1 October, officers executed a warrant at an address on Templeton Drive, Fearnhead, Warrington.
A 38-year-old man was arrested at the address on suspicion fraud by false representation and theft. A number of items were seized at the address including mobile phones and financial documentation.
The warrant follows an investigation involving cars purchased on finance through a garage in Warrington.
Detective Constable Matt Furlong, who is leading this investigation, said: “Today marks a significant step forward in what has been a complex investigation into the fraudulent mis-selling of cars.
“The victims have reported how they discovered outstanding debt that they weren’t aware of, while others have reported loans being taken out in their names without their knowledge.
“They all purchased vehicles believing that everything was above board, only to discover later that they owed large amounts of money and their credit ratings had been severely damaged.”
The suspect remains in police custody at this time, where he is assisting officers with their enquiries.
