Gymnasium plan for Victoria Park Arena

PLANS for a gymnasium with changing rooms, offices and classrooms at Victoria Park Arena are set to come before Warrington planning chiefs.

The proposals, submitted by the Warrington Wolves Foundation are to be considered by the borough’s development management committee at their next meeting.
Officers are recommending approval and there have been no objections to the scheme.
They say provision of additional facilities to support rugby development is consistent with the existing use of the site as a multi-use sporting facility.
Victoria Park is a council owned facility and consists of various sporting facilities including a dedicated track and field stadium, two high quality pitches used primarily for rugby and football as well as open access grassed areas which are marked out for football and rugby uses. The site also
benefits from bowling greens and a skateboard area both of which are adjacent to the site’s main entrance on to Knutsford Road. The complex includes car parking provision for about 320 vehicles.
The Environment Agency has been consulted because of a possible flood risk due to the proximity of the Mersey but has not objected.

The gymnasium and changing area will be built in a void beneath the existing spectator stand while the offices and classrooms will be in a new, modular building on a grassed area north of the spectator stand. It will be built on concrete blocks to create a void underneath for flood mitigation purposes.
Warrington Wolves Rugby are seeking planning consent for the proposals to provide supporting facilities associated with their training offer at the site and to allow relocation of their Foundation programme to the site
